![[They, Them] “I am originally from Milan, Italy. I believe that culture’s view on body image is very judgemental. Everybody judges everybody. Xenophobia, fatphobia and transphobia are a real thing, especially among my family. I got bullied for years over certain parts of my body, for having body hair, or that I look ‘too masculine’ and so on. There’s pressure to adjust yourself and your style to the conventional look. ‘You wear too much or you wear too little,’ people try to push you to fit into what they expect you to look like, but I don't want to fit in this system. I want to express myself, not ‘fit in.’
To me, having a positive body image could be accomplished through someone emphasizing their bodies and styles for what they are, and not for what society expects them to be. Granting them a confidence, almost like a shield of strength that you can’t get through. For me, fashion allows me to feel more confident through playing with different styles and expressing myself and my gender through my style. My style has transformed over the years, ever-changing with my own personal development. Currently I define my style as explorative gender non-conforming androgynous with a hint of femme vibe. My self expression through fashion helps me reduce gender dysphoria.”
